Ethics and Deontology
UE Transversales / وحدات التعليم الأفقية

This module is a first course in ethics (the study of right and wrong) and deontology (the study of duty). It is written for students who learn in English as a foreign language, so it uses plain English and explains every new word.

The module follows a clear path. It begins with the basic question “What is ethics?”  and with the meaning and origin of deontology, both as the duties of a profession and as a philosophical theory. It then shows how ethics is connected to law, religion and culture. Next it studies the key concepts that we use in every moral discussion: values, rights, duties, responsibility, justice, honesty, integrity, respect and dignity, and how to face dilemmas and make decisions.
